The tourists can experience a very interesting Wildlife in Maputo. Some of the famous destinations while exploring the Wildlife in Maputo are:

  • Limpopo National Park
  • Bahine National Park
  • Zinave National Park
  • Maputo Elephant Reserve
  • Niassa Game Reserve

At Banhine National Park, you can see animals like ostrich, kudu, impala, reedbuck, duiker, steenbok, porcupine, warthog, and oribi. Banhine's wetlands also are a home to the water fowl and highly endangered migratory birds, such as the Wattled crane. Banhine National Park is a home to thirty seven percent of species of fish recorded in the entire Great Transfrontier Conservation Area. The abundance of wildlife, which includes animals and birds of rare category makes this National Park a sought after tourist destination.

Rare kinds of fish Killfish and Lungfish are found in Banhine National Park. The African Wildlife Foundation, with support from the World Bank, is facilitating the restoration of this park.

Populations of large herbivores such as buffalo, sable, zebra, and wildebeest have got eroded by the Civil war, but the parks are in a stage of restoration.

Maputo Elephant Reserve is situated 79 km south of Maputo in the southernmost province of Mozambique. More than two hundred elephants are found in this Reserve. It is a delightful experience to see these majestic animals, gazing at this natural surrounding.

Niassa Game Reserve is situated in the far north of Mozambique on the border with Tanzania. The Rovuna River flows to the north of the reserve. Variety kinds of animals are found in this reserve. They are herds of buffalo, sable, roan and around 12000 elephants. A large number of animals have lost their lives by falling prey to the poachers. Anti poaching rules have been implemented in this Reserve. Hope this ensures the protection of wildlife.

There was a colossal loss of wildlife in Limpopo Park in the Civil Wars of Mozambique. Off late steps have been taken to restore the lost glory of the park. Some games from the South African Kruger Park have been transferred to the Limpopo Park.
