Guhyeshwari Temple

Guhyeshwari Temple is one of the finest temples in the city of Kathmandu. The Guhyeshwari Temple has an enriched history associated with it and is one of the true symbols of Hindu tradition. The national religion of Nepal is Hinduism and the importance of it comes to the foreground when one delves into its background. The Guhyeshwari Temple has been built with a lot of artistic skill and the ornamentation of the carvings of the temple is a true evidence of it.

The Guhyeshwari Temple delineates the love and devotion of the people of Nepal towards their religion. There are many legends which are associated with the sanctity of the temple. The location of the Guhyeshwari Temple is quite easy to find as it is situated near another prominent holy shrine of Kathmandu, the revered Pashupatinath Temple. The Guhyeshwari Temple justifies the presence of female force or the mother goddess in this world. According to Hindu mythology the dominance of the female force has a very important place and Guhyeshwari Temple conveys this particular idea.

The legend goes that Parvati the wife of Lord Shiva was very disturbed with the indiscipline life of her husband and decided to end her life. The death of his wife filled the heart of Lord Shiva with utmost repentance and he emerged on the great journey of paying for his mistake. The body of his dead wife was carried on his head by the Lord for days and somehow the yoni of the mother goddess fell in the place where the temple has been constructed.

The villages who used to live in that place erected a small cenotaph and began to worship that figure. The historians have suggested that the Guhyeshwari Temple was constructed by King Pratap Malla in the early 17th century. The facade of the temple does not convey a splendid architectural brilliance and it looks frail also. The main sanctum of the temple is adorned with floral patterns and the temple has been built in a Bhutanese pagoda style. The Guhyeshwari Temple highlights the concord between the male and female forces of nature.
