New Year in Nepal




New Year in Nepal is celebrated with great pomp and joy. This country is situated in the Asian continent and shares its borders with the country of India and China. The new year or Navavarsha in Nepal begins from the very 1st day of the 1st month of Baisakh. This day is celebrated as the New Year of Nepal. This day occurs in the 2nd week of the month of April each year.

Among the various Holidays in Nepal, this day is considered as a national holiday. The locals celebrate this day along with their friends and families. Picnics and get-togethers are arranged during the new year. Other social events are also organized to welcome the coming of the new year.

Lhosar or the Tibetan New Year is celebrated by the Sherpas of this country of Nepal. This day falls in the month of February. The Buddhist monasteries in the capital are adorned with beautiful and attractive prayer flags. Monasteries like Boudhanath and Swayambhunath are big crowd pullers. The Sherpas and Tibetans living in this country do the traditional dances. They dine together with their friends and families and wear new clothes and other adornments to welcome the new year. Gifts are also exchanged on this day to celebrate the New Year. Both these days are celebrated with great pomp and joy. The New Year in Nepal is a very happening event and people from various parts of the world come to watch the celebrations.
