The Ashokan Stupas, Patan is located in the four corners of the city. These historic stupas are constructed around 250 BC by the famous king Asoka who later embraced Buddhism. The southern part of the city has the Lagan Thura stupa. This is the largest amongst the four stupas. The peak of the stupa has a tiny stone edifice of hemispherical in shape. Visitors can see the painting of the eyes of the Buddha. There is also a lotus pond in this area.
The last stupa is the Pulchowk Thura stupa located in the western part of the city. The stupa has suffered damage and has remains of the mound. Here also, visitors can see fading paintings of the eyes of the Buddha. The base of the stupa has 4 pagodas.
