Getting to Pokhara is very easy and convenient as it has good bus and air links to other parts of the country. The overland routes are often affected by the security situation. Getting to Pokhara is very convenient as it is well supported by trusted network of roads. There are three bus stands in Pokhara. There is a dusty and chaotic main public bus stand at the northeast end of the Pokhara. It also has airstrip buses to Kathmandu and towns in the Terai. The night bus services only run during lulls in violence between Maoist rebels and the government. The tourists are advised to check locally before making any long journeys by bus.
There are also many faster mini buses available to Kathmandu (Kalanki) on the highway in front of the public bus stand. If you want to take the tourist buses to Kathmandu and Royal Chitwan National Park then you can take those from the smaller Mustang bus stand at Mustang Chowk. The buses to the trailheads for the Annapurna Conservation Area leave from the Baglung bus park at Bhairab Tole, which is situated to the north of the centre on the main highway. One important exception is the Annapurna Circuit trek, which normally starts at Besisahar.
Greenline has a daily air-con bus service to Thamel at 07:30 from its depot in Lakeside South. Golden Travels has a similar service to Durbar Marg in central Kathmandu, leaving from the Mustang bus stand at 07:30. Greenline also has a daily deluxe air-con bus to Chitrasali at 07:30 from its depot.
Pokhara is also well connected to other countries by airways. The Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation and several private airlines offer daily shuttle flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara. There are many airlines that serve flights to Pokhara making getting to Pokhara by air convenient. RNAC and Gorkha Airlines offer flights to Jomsom, on the Annapurna Circuit trail. RNAC also has a flight to Manang but you can only visit with a permit from Kathmandu. The only flights to the Terai are four weekly RNAC shuttle flights to Bharatpur. All the airlines have offices opposite the airport near Mustang Chowk.
After getting to Pokhara, there are various trans….means available by which you can move about in the city. There are many places in the city from where you can rent bicycles, motorbikes and scooters. The boatman at Lakeside offer shuttle services around the lake. There are many small local buses available that run between Lakeside, the airport, the public bus stand and Mahendrapul.
