Getting to Alkmaar
Alkmaar is provided by Intercity trains from Amsterdam. There are 4 trains per hour, journey time 35 to 40 minutes. These Intercity trains start in Nijmegen or Maastricht and stop at Utrecht. At Amsterdam-Sloterdijk station, on the western edge of Amsterdam, they join with trains to Schiphol Airport, Leiden, The Hague, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Breda. Alkmaar is also has a train route from The Hague via Haarlem and Alkmaar to Hoorn in every 30 minutes.
Getting to Alkmaar: By Road
Local bus services in Alkmaar connects to surrounding villages and towns, up to about 30 kilometers away. All the buses stop at Alkmaar bus station which is next to the railway station. Some of the routes also stop at the northern edge of the old city centre or at the southern border. There is an hourly long distance bus service to or from Harlingen in Friesland, between Harlingen station with the local train to or from Leeuwarden.
