The Natural History Museum Maastricht is regarded as one of the largest natural museums in The Netherlands. Natural History Museum has extensive collections in the fields of geology, paleontology, botany and zoology. It is located in the south of Limburg.

Exhibits: The Natural History Museum has two types of exhibits. They are the permanent and temporary exhibits. The main themes that are there in the permanent exhibits are:

Looking into Time: This mainly deals with the geology of south Limburg and the tourist is taken on a journey through time. The journey starts from the Carboniferous period about 350 million years ago and goes up to the Cretaceous period about 70 million years ago. It also passes through the famous KT boundary including the Maastricht Mosasaurus.The journey also takes the tourist to the Quaternary age where traces of the oldest human habitation can be found. The humans of this habitation were popularly called the Jagers of Belvedre.

Play in the Present: This exhibit deals with biology and provides information on contemporary natural surroundings. The exhibit generally highlights the lives of insects and bats. It also highlights the areas like Hellingbossen, Kalkgraslanden, and Grindgaten along the Maas and the city of Maastricht.

From past to the present: This exhibit deals both with the biological and geological features. It mainly deals with the influence of climate on humans and landscape. The exhibits also show various features related to Flora and Fauna whose features got repeatedly changed with the gradual passage of time.

Among the famous temporary exhibits, the notable ones are:

Memento Mori: This deals with the deaths that occurred in the Maastricht town between 900 to 110 A.D

Black seeds: This deals with the archeological and botanical findings of the Maastricht town.

Besides the above exhibits, the Natural History Museum also has caves which are mainly located inside the children's gallery. The entrance to the caves is in the southern part of Limburg.

At the rear of the Natural History Museum is a thick pack of limestone exhibits. These were used for building houses, farms and castles
