The Euromast was built in 1960 by architect H.A. Maaskant and contractor J.P. van Eesteren on the time of the Floriade. In November 1958 the Rotterdam newspapers published the news that the tower would be named Euromast. The word Euro is used because Rotterdam is in the center of the European market and the word 'mast' was used because along with Dutch, the Englishmen, Germans, Swedes, Norwegians and Danes also knew what the word meant.

The first pile of Euromast Tower, Rotterdam was rammed into the ground by mayor Van Walsum who was dressed in an oilskin coat and his head covered with a crash helmet.

In May 1964 a Luxembourg commercial radio station broadcasted a Sunday afternoon programme from the Euromast Tower, Rotterdam was performed. The name of the program was Teener Topper Tijd.
