The Nederlands Spoorwegmuseum, Utrecht is one of the most frequently visited tourist attractions in Utrecht. This is the Dutch national Railway Museum which was set up in the year 1927 and has been placed in the 'Maliebaan Station' which was initially a railroad station in Utrecht. The museum has long been the centre of attraction since it was established in the year 1927 and the rave3lers coming from far and wide always made it a point to visit the Nederlands Spoorwegmuseum, Utrecht as it gave a comprehensive idea about Utrecht and its historical background.
The collection which was housed in the Nederlands Spoorwegmuseum, Utrecht comprised small objects, documents and pictures. The first initiative that was taken was to conserve the old and historically significant rail equipments but a portion of it was destroyed during the Second World War. But the museum has undergone a lot of changes to keep up with time and there are exhibits inside as well as outside the museum which make your trip a worthwhile experience.
The travelers find the outdoor exhibit area quite an interesting place as they get to see a model railway; a water tower which is placed close to the existing signal house is a later addition, a playground, a turntable and playground for the children. The most recent and much talked about addition are the wide varieties of rolling stock. The number of objects on display were so large in number that some of then had to be done way with. In the 1990s some of the trams which were on display were dropped from he huge collection and the trains were kept in storage for the tourists to have a look. The remaining portion of the collection is not shown to the public in categories but is done so at random. You will get to see train cars, diesel locomotive, some trams, electric locomotive, stem locomotives and freight cars are some of he tings which are on display here.
When the renovated museum was re-opened in the year 2005 in the month of June a railway station was also re-opened after a span of about 66 years. You can catch the train which is available daily after a gap of 1 hour and runs from Utrecht Central Station and the Nederlands Spoorwegmuseum.
