The museum preserves the artifacts in 2 collections, “Maori Treasures” and “Pacific Pathways.” While the first focuses on Polynesian culture in kiwi incarnation the second deals with the larger Polynesian culture spread throughout the Pacific Ocean. Between the two collections there are more than 3,000 artifacts, many of which are ancient or one of a kind.

Auckland Museum is housed in one of the country’s finest heritage buildings of the region. The collections of the Museum tell the story of New Zealand as a nation. The museum showcases award-winning natural history exhibits to galleries which throw light on New Zealand’s cultural origins.

The Museum’s war memorial exhibition is known as Scars on the Heart. It tells the story of New Zealand at war. He Taonga Maori: the Museum’s Maori treasures gallery, displays over 2000 priceless Maori artifacts. These include rare carvings and the last great Maori war canoe carved from a giant Totara tree.

Auckland Museum is the only venue in Auckland where visitors can see and learn from Maori cultural performance daily.

Auckland Museum, Auckland provides an insight into New Zealand’s cultural, social and natural history. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. It is close on Christmas. The Maori Culture Performance is performed 3 times daily at 11am, 12 pm, and 1.30 pm.
