Lake Karapiro is one of the favorite water sports destinations in New Zealand. The lake is one of many visited Tourist Attractions in Hamilton. Hamilton is located on the banks of the Waikato River and is 130 kilometers south of Auckland. Lake Karapiro is situated in the Waipa District and is considered the jewel in the crown of this region.

The lake is an artificial lake created as part of a hydroelectricity scheme on the Waikato River. Lake Karapiro has 7.7 square kilometers of calm water and is ideal for water-skiers, yachts, canoeists, boats and rowers. This Hamilton Attraction is an international class water sports venue. It is located in North Island and is 2.5 kilometers south of Cambridge near State Highway One. Travelers can avail of the facilities of the Camping and Pursuits Centre all year around.

The scenery around Lake Karapiro in Hamilton is absolutely gorgeous. You will love relaxing here and trying out the various activities. A boat ramp is available for public use during the whole year. At the Lake Karapiro Camping and Pursuits Centre travelers can undertake various affordable outdoor experiences. It features an outdoor recreational activities, excellent venue, peaceful accommodation and camping facilities. The Lake Karapiro has accommodation and a function center which can be used for corporate retreats and school camps.

Many of New Zealand's top rowers including Rob and Sonia Waddell and Olympic gold medalists Caroline and Georgina Evers-Swindell trained at this lake. During the cooler months the area is ideal for tramping as it features several walking tracks nearby. The World Rowing Championships in 1978 was held here.
