Brooklands Zoo, New Plymouth, is not just a zoological garden But it has been planned in such a way, in order to create a natural home or habitat to animals including some endangered species. At present, Brooklands Zoo, New Plymouth, consists of an endangered red panda, otter, capuclin and cotton-top tamarin monkeys, a selection of colorful birds and Parma wallabies inside a free-flight aviary. Recently, three ring-tailed lemurs joined the family at the zoo. The charming new additions are named Ashley, Sarah and Minera and form an added attraction in itself. One of them is from the Auckland Zoo and the other two were the members of the Hamilton Zoo.
The Brooklands Zoo, New Plymouth, is a popular tourist attraction in New Plymouth, situated off the Brooklands Drive. It is located in a walking distance from the city center through the Pukekura Park. It is actually next to the famous Brooklyn Bowl, at the Pukekura Park. The main objective of the park is to guide the children of all age group to get closer to the animals in their natural habitat.
There is a farm yard, where you can observe various young and infant animals from close proximity. It is also a great fun to walk across the free-flight aviary and to see the monkeys poking out of their large and airy home, from the elevated viewing deck or the wide ground level window.
The Zoo officially started in the year 1965. Since that time the Zoo has passed through various changes. The recent building development has given exposure to more open space for the animals and unrestricted view for the visitors.
The Zoo is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. So you will be able to enjoy the fascinating Zoo, and it is not going to pinch your pocket, as it is free of cost.
Some of the facilities available in this Zoo are Wheelchair and Pushchair Access, playground, sunshade, toilet and picnic tables.
