Katikati Bird Gardens, Tauranga is a beautiful, 30 year old privately owned park. The 10 acre Katikati Bird Gardens, Tauranga is located on the edge of the Tauranga inner harbor near Tauranga in the Bay Of Plenty in New Zealand.
This is a beautiful and extensive park and bird sanctuary on the edge of the Tauranga harbor. It features a wide range of native and colorful birds. The garden is set in delightful line of mature trees, lily ponds, wetlands and secret paths. It also boasts of an art gallery featuring local artists and a cafe serving coffee and lunches.
The Katikati Bird Gardens has delightful and mature landscaped gardens. The garden has, over the years, been an enchanting destination with year-round color and interest. Over 50 varieties of birds can be found including New Zealand natives such as kea, teal and kereru. Visitors are encouraged to hand-feed the ducklings and doves with the bird food provided in the park.
Activities
The garden tour comprises of a 45 minutes walk along all-weather paths. A golf cart is also available for the guided tours. Golf cart tours can be arranged free for elderly and those unable to get around the gardens on their own.
Cafe Accommodation and Facilities
Katikati Bird Gardens, Tauranga has several other supplementary facilities. These include a terrace cafe, an art gallery, a gift shop and a lovely garden cottage for rental. The 2 person deluxe self-contained cottage is available for rental or B&B for those wishing to spend the night Picnic and BBQ facilities are also available. Parking for buses and cars are also provided here.
Operating hours
The garden is open from 10 am to 4.30 pm for 7 days a week from September to the end of May. In June, July and August, it is open on weekends and during school holidays.
Groups, interested in exploring the garden can seek an appointment year round. Discounts on ticket prices are provided for groups of 10 or more.
