Botanical Garden is situated near central Wellington and it covers about 25 hectares of land on the side of the hill between Thorndon and Kelburn. The Botanical Garden is today one of the most popular and a must visit tourist attractions in Wellington.

This popular Botanical Garden features 25 hectares of protected native forest, conifers, plant collections and seasonal floras. You can take your whole family for a tour to this garden. It also features a variety of non-native species, including an extensive Rose Garden. They are classified as a Garden of National Significance by the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture.

The famous Wellington Cable Car runs between Lambton Quay and the top of the Botanic Garden. It is the most direct route to get from the top part of the garden to the Central Business District of Wellington.

The winding hill paths of the Botanical Garden are a popular spot for the local Wellington residents. This spot is used for walking, jogging and taking children to the playground. The Botanical garden is also a favorite hangout zone for University students. The Rudderstone, by Dennis O'Connor is one of the many sculptures in the Garden. The Garden also features a large Victorian-style glasshouse, the Begonia House, the Lady Norwood Rose Garden and the Tree house Visitor Centre. You will also see a large children's play area, a duck pond, and even glowworms in the Garden. Take your kids with you to this place so that they can enjoy in the playgrounds.

These large sculptures and carvings are located throughout the garden. These sculptures are done by artists such as Henry Moore, Andrew Drummond and Chris Booth.

The Botanic Garden in Wellington is home to several organizations like Carter Observatory, the National Observatory of New Zealand, Wellington Cable Car Museum, Meteorological Service of New Zealand, T-Up, (Victoria University Innovation Greenhouse) and the World Wide Fund for Nature New Zealand headquarters.
