The Wellington Cable Car is one of the popular and oldest tourist attractions in Wellington. It is a unique form of transportation in the city and travelers who wish to visit the popular attractions in the city and avail of the services of the cable car. The Wellington Cable Car in Wellington is one of the main forms of transportation to visit the Botanical Garden and the suburbs of Kelburn. The main stop of the cable car service is located near the area of Lambton Quay which is just few minutes from the business district of the city. The Wellington Cable Car was first built to provide transportation from the city to the farms in Kelburn. The entire cable service took around 4 years to complete. The service which was originally made by the Upland Estate Real Estate Company has gradually developed to become one of the chief modes of transportation in the city. The cable car services depart 10 minutes and are available daily.

The Wellington Cable Car, Wellington passes through special tracks under the main motorway. There are 3 tunnels which pass from Kelburn Park to Victoria University to the Botanic Garden. The station is also close to popular tourist attractions like Carter Observatory and Planetarium. The cable cars are well maintained and are equipped with contemporary facilities.

There is also a museum which exhibits the specimens of The Wellington Cable Car. The museum consists of an original cable car and other historical specimens of the first trip. It also exhibits a wide collection of gifts, souvenirs, items, DVDs and models relating to the cable cars. The museum remains open from 9 AM in the morning till 5 PM in the evening. There is no entrance fee to the museum. The museum had won the New Zealand Tourism Award for its wonderful display of articles.
