The Wellington airport is also the major transit point for domestic travelers. There are frequent flights from the Wellington airport to the different destinations like Palmerston North, Auckland, Christchurch, Rotorua, Hamilton, Nelson, Blenheim and many others. The International flights from Australia arrive to the airport about twice daily. From the airport, you can take the Flyer, which is a regular Airport bus. The bus departs from the south end of the domestic terminal. This bus will take you to your hotel. Taxis and covered car parking are also available directly outside the terminal.

Getting to Wellington by Road:-

For those who are planning to come to Wellington by road must know that there are only two major roads into Wellington. One of them follows the western coast to the north, and State Highway two heads north-east through the Hutt Valley, over the Rimutaka Ranges to the Wairarapa. Both these roads are motorways but after approx 20 kilometers turn into single lane highway as they negotiate difficult terrain. The drivers taking the Rimutaka Hill road must be alert to extreme wind and weather, especially in winter. These roads close several times a year due to snowfall near the summit.

Getting to Wellington by Train:-

You can also reach the city by rains as there is a train service between Wellington and Auckland. There are daily commuter services available from Palmerston North and Masterton. There is a generally half-hourly suburban commuter service to Johnsonville, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, and Paraparaumu on the Kapiti coast.
