In 1896, Niger was included into French West Africa. There were regular rebellions, but when order was restored in 1922, the French prepared the area as a colony. In 1958, the voters approved the French foundation and voted to make the province an independent republic inside the French Community. The republic adopted a constitution in 1959 but the next year withdrew from the Community, announcing its freedom.

Dosso is a town situated in the south-west corner of Niger. The place is located 86 km south-east of the capital Niamey at the connection of the key routes to Zinder and Benin. It is the seventh most crowded town in Niger and the largest in Dosso section, it had a population of 43,300. There are attractions in the town that include the chieftain's compound and a museum.
The customary chief is approached Jermakoy or Zarmakoy that is a rare autochthonous title which means exactly Jermas owner, Jerma or Zarma being the name of the prime cultural group in Dosso. The known officeholders were:
