Niger or the Republic of Niger is a landlocked country in western Africa. As per history one of the first empires of Niger is the Songhai Empire. After that nomadic invasions began and the nomadic Tureg formed large confederations. In the 19th century its contact with west began and finally in 1922 it became a French colony. Finally after much struggle Niger became an autonomous state on December 4, 1958.

Climate of Niger

Being situated in one of the sunniest regions of the world, Niger experiences a subtropical climate that is the weather remains mostly hot and dry. If you go to the extreme south you can find a tropical climate on the edges of the Niger River basin. Niger also witnesses heavy rainfall between June and September. But the quantity of rainfall varies from region to region and its distribution is very erratic with levels falling sharply to the north. So the best time to visit this beautiful country is between the winter season, that is, from November to February.

Transportation in Niger

Transportation in Niger is well-developed and it relies mainly on roadways and airways. All the main roads run from west to east. It begins from Ayorou and passes through the major cities such as Niamey, Dosso, Maradi, Zinder and ends at Nguigmi. The most important international transport route in Niger is by road to the rail terminus at Parakou in Benin. Tourists can also travel by airways. There were 26 airports and an international airport in the capital city Niamey. The major airline is the Air Afrique.
