The Birnin Quarter, Zinder is located in the southeast of this modern city. The quarters are fine example of the traditional Hausa architecture. Getting to Zinder
Zinder is a transport hub. The main roads go to Niamey and Kano in Nigeria and also to Chad through Nguigmi. There are good bus connection from Niamey to Zinder. It takes around 14 hours to reach by bus. There are bus routes to Agadez as well and it takes around 8 hours. One can also avail of the Bush taxis which are faster and cheaper. The Bush Taxis go till the Nigerian border. Zinder provides a good stop as one goes to or come from NIgeria. The main road goes straight to Kano.

The city of Zinder was founded at the start of the 17th century by Hausa tradesmen from kano. It is located on the trading route from Kano to Agadex. It was a famous trading center of the Hausa Empire. After the arrival of the French, Zinder was the administrative center till 1926, when Niamey became the capital of Niger.
