University of Ibadan, Ibadan, is the oldest university in Ibadan. The university was formerly located in a place which served the 56th Military General Hospital. Presently it is situated 8 kilometers away from the old site. The present site covering an area of 1,032 hectares had been offered on lease for 999 years by the people and the chiefs of Ibadan. The university started functioning at the present location in the year 1948, on 17th November.
The university offers both graduate and postgraduate courses. The courses offered by the university comprise Agriculture and Forestry, Dentistry, Clinical Sciences, Law, Arts, Technology, Medical sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Education, Social Sciences.
University of Ibadan is a residential university housing various halls of residence like the Tedder Hall, Mellanby Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Kuti Hall, Obafemi Awolowo Hall, Alexandra Brown Hall, Tafawa Balewa Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall, Independence Hall, Queen Idia Hall and Sultan Bello Hall.
