University of Ibadan in Ibadan is the oldest university in Ibadan. The university was founded in the year 1948. Formerly the hotel was located in a place which served the 56th Military General Hospital. Presently it is situated 8 kilometers away from the old site. The present site of the university sprawls over an area of 1,032 hectares. The land was offered on lease for 999 years by the people and the chiefs of Ibadan. The foundation day of the university (at its present location) is 17th November, 1948. However it already started functioning much before the foundation day, from18th January, 1948 with 104 students pursuing courses in teachers training and other survey courses.
