Norway is officially known as the Kingdom of Norway. It is a country in the Northern part of Europe and it occupies the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The neighbors of Norway are Finland, Sweden, and Russia. The country is all the more famous for its extensive coastline along the North Atlantic Ocean and its famous fjords.

Geography of Norway

Norway has a rugged coastline that is often broken by the massive fjords and there are about 50,000 islands that stretch over 2,500 kilometers. Norway shares an area of 2,542 kilometers with Finland, Sweden, and Russia to the east. To the west and south, Norway is bordered by the North Sea, Norwegian Sea, and Skagerak. There is the Barents Sea in the north.

Languages of Norway

The main languages of Norway are Bokmål and Nynorsk and these are used in public administration, churches, in schools, radio and television. Around 95% of the population speaks Norwegian as their native tongue, but they speak dialects as well. There are the Finno-Ugric Sami languages too that are spoken as well as written throughout Norway.

The main foreign languages that are taught in Norway are German, English, and French. There is Danish and Swedish too that are spoken.
