The lovely St. Jorgen's Church, Bergen was constructed in the medieval periods of history. Some of the medieval epochs of history speak of the dark ages of Europe when the Europeans suffered a lot during the aftermath of incessant wars, plagues, terrible fires, etc. It was also during this era that the poverty-stricken people who were struck by leprosy were banned from visiting public places and were treated inhumanly. The St. Jorgen's Church, Bergen was a refuge for these poor people who otherwise lived in utter misery and constant illness.
The kind-hearted Norwegian priests of Bergen erected the St. Jorgen's Church in Bergen out of sheer sympathy for the poor and the ailing. Here, the lepers would come in throngs to get the assurance of these devout Christians who would offer them food and clothing. The lepers were extremely grateful for these offerings and would thank the priests in turn.
However, the St. Jorgen's Church, Bergen was exposed to a devastating fire in the early years of the eighteenth century. Many of the church's halls and chambers were destroyed in this fire. However, as the St. Jorgen's Church, Bergen was revered highly among the Christians of Bergen and the common people in general because of the dedicated services of its priests; it was decided to have the structure reconstructed. The portions that were destroyed by the flames were engineered once more and the St. Jorgen's Church, Bergen and its precincts have been carefully maintained since then.
