The Kon Tiki Museum, Oslo has a range of boats and artifact's from the expedition of Thor Heyerdahl. This private funded museum is situated at Bygdoy, which is just outside the heart of the city. Bygdiy is among the wealthiest suburbs, and is near to the bay, giving a scenic view of the Oslo harbor.
Thor Heyerdahl completed his voyage across the Pacific on a raft in 1947. 2 years later, hi opened the first Kon-Tiki exhibition. The nuseum however opened its door in 1957, after the publication of his two books, "Kon-Tiki" and "Aku Aku" which earned him worldwide recognition. The architecture of the Museum has the inspiration of Polynesia and the influence of American culture of the pacific during fifties and sixties. The script has the tiki font and the ambiance has a vintage taste about it.
The Kon Tiki Museum, Oslo houses the artifacts from other explorations of Heyerdahl, including Ra II expedition to Barbados from Morocco in 1970 and the reed boat Tigris, which he used to cross the Indian Ocean from Asia to Africa in 1978. The main attractions however are the Kon-Tiki raft and the giant Moai-replicas. Though it is difficult to take pictures, one can download pictures from their website, which offers numerous virtual tours. Next to caves as well as underwater grotto, one finds a small auditorium where one can see short documentary on the Kon Tiki.
The shop at Kon Tiki Museum, Oslo has some great items to shop for Tiki items. One can buy some expensive carved Moais from the Easter Island artists. Also on exhibition are some exclusive clay Moais.

Visitors can catch a bus running every 15 minutes, and heading for Bygdoy from either the Central station or else National Theater. In the summer time (April to October), one can take a boat trip to reach the Kon Tiki Museum, Oslo. There are frequent ferry services starting from quayside which is near to the City hall.
