The Oslo Domkirke (Oslo's cathedral) is the third cathedral in Oslo, after the first cathedral called Hallvards Cathedral, which was built by Sigurd I of Norway during the first half of the 12th century. This cathedral wa situated by the Old Bishop's Palace which is situated 1.5 km east of Oslo Domkirke.
The Oslo's cathedral was consecrated in1697. The items of the cathedral are from that time. the Oslo Domkirke was renovated between 1849 and 1850 by Alexis de Chateauneuf, who is the architect of the Trefoldighetskirke. The cathedral was further renovated between 1948 and 1950. The location of Oslo Domkirke is near to Storget in the heart of the town.
The marriage of King Harald and Qween Sonja as well as Crown Prince Haalon Magus and Mette-Marit took place at Oslo Domkirke. There are regular concerts as well as crypt houses exhibitions at the cathedral. There are no charges for admission at the cathedral.
The first organ of the cathedral was built in 1711 by the Carl Gustav Luckvitz. The present main organ was made by Jan Ryde in the year 1997, which was the tercentenary year. The Organists who played here are:
