Oslo Historical Museum

Oslo Historical Museum is spectacular monumental building lying in the heart of the city of Oslo in Norway. The museum not only depicts the history of the country but is also a brilliant specimen of the Jugend architectural style. Oslo Historical Museum is well known for being the home to a wide array of artifacts collected from different parts of the world.

At the first floor of Oslo Historical Museum, you will find ancient relics from the Ice age till Christianity came to Norway. You will get a glimpse of the lives of the Norwegian people about 90000 years ago. You will find relics of the Viking age too in this museum. The most valuable possession of the museum is the treasure chest containing the valuables of gold and silver from different parts of the country as well as abroad. One of the main attractions of the museum is the Al stave church chancel belonging to 14 th century. There are other art and artifacts belonging to the the medieval period too.

At the second floor of Oslo Historical Museum, the tourists can view a collection of antiques comprising of historical objects dating back to the Greek and Roman empire. You can have an idea of the life and people of the Arctic regions, as you will find exhibits on the native people of the arctic regions. There are displays from the life and daily activities of the Red Indians of North America and South America too.

At the third floor of Oslo Historical Museum , there are displays from the lives of the African people and they are arranged according to different themes. The fourth floor holds exhibits from the Asian countries like Japan, China and Korea. You can see the Chinese Emperors' thrones, a Japanese Bridal palanquin, the Samurais' weapon as well as Buddha figures under the same roof.

Oslo Historical Museum is a well known tourist attraction in Oslo. Being placed at the city center, the museum can be easily accessed from different parts pf the city. The museum is open on all days except Monday. The museum remains closed on some days of the year like Good Friday, Easter Eve, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, 1. May, 17. May, 24-26 Dec. and 31 Dec.
