The Town Hall, Oslo dominates the harbor area of Oslo. There are many murals as well as wood-carvings of exceptional quality, which started in the thirties, and after an interruption during world war II, the construction was completed in the 1950s. There are many fine statues that could be found around here and these are nice examples of 20th century Norwegian public sculpture. The sculptures indicate an array of subjects from mythology to the present day events like resistance to Nazi occupation of Norway.

The Town Hall, Oslo is mainly involved in running the capital city. The lower level of the hall can be entered from the harbor side. It has the City Hall gallery and the municipal Information Center. The gallery is the place where different exhibitions are held round the year. There are various events as well as activities being staged in the square during summer. There is an employment of some 450 municipal employees and politicians. The place is visited by more than 100,000 guests, visitors and tourists each year.
