Norsk Grafisk Museum, Stavanger

Norsk Grafisk Museum, Stavanger is a Printing Museum that was established in the year 1991. This magnificent museum contains many printing machines and ancient equipments that were used for the purpose of printing. It was a voluntary attempt of the local people and the enthusiasts to preserve these rare machines that resulted in the building of the Norsk Grafisk Museum, Stavanger.

Stavanger was an important center of print and publication in Norway and it was therefore required that there be a museum that illustrates the contribution of Stavanger in the field of printing. Very close to the Norsk Grafisk Museum, Stavanger is the Bjergsted Park. A little further away lies the Stavanger harbor, the busy terminal of the port city. In its preliminary state the Norsk Grafisk Museum in Stavanger had been set up in an old canning warehouse.

Finally the Norsk Grafisk Museum, Stavanger underwent several renovations to be reopened officially in 1993. Eversince it has become one of the important tourist attractions in Stavanger. In this particular museum you will find a whole lot of printing equipments and several editions of the newspapers that were published in the early years. Documents pertaining to lithography and bookbinding also are contained in this museum. Several of these machines and documents date back to the year 1850.

This Norwegian Printing Museum is run as a "live" museum. It has earned this name because many of the machines that are kept here are still functional. Inside the Norsk Grafisk Museum, Stavanger is situated a cozy cafeteria and a meeting room. The cafeteria is called the "Café Gutenberg". It is a recent incorporation and has been introduced especially for the visitors who come to the museum. The café seats approximately 50 odd guests.
