Geography: The city is located at 51°45'07?N, 1°15'28?W. Oxford does not have to suffer extremes of climate but the weather is very unpredictable. The autumn and the winter months are very cold when the temperatures reach freezing point. The Spring and summer months are the best time to visit the city with the temperatures being close to 20 degree centigrade.
History: The first historical record of the city was found in the Anglo – Saxon chronicle in the year 912. Oxford was a very important city during the rules of the Saxon kings. In those times it was known as “Oxenaforda”. It became an important center of learning by the beginning of the 12th century. The industrial growth of the city in the early 20th century advanced the developments and brought about many changes in the city.
Economy: With the rise in the number of tourists every year, the tourism has become one of the most important industries of the city. The hospitality and the hotel industry have reaped the benefits of this ever growing industry. The manufacturing industry also plays an important part in economy of the city, especially, automobiles. The information Technology has its share in adding to the city treasury.

Administration and Government: The city of Oxford is the county seat of the county of Oxfordshire. The Oxford City Council, which is elected by the people of the city, fulfills the responsibility of governing the city. It is a district council, which takes care of the needs of the city. Evan Harris and Andrew Smith is heading the council at present.
Society and Cultural Life: Oxford is cosmopolitan town in its true sense! Though the Whites make up majority of the population, 87.1%, the Asians, 4.8%, Afro – Caribbean, 2.5%, and the Chinese, 1.8%, also play an important role in shaping up the social structure of the city. Oxford is a city, which is rich with culture, being the home of people from so many ethnicities. The Natives look to the theaters and cinemas as an important way of entertainment. The Political culture of the city is also very vibrant with organizations like oxford Action Resource Center and the Corporate Watch.
Educational Institutions: Can anybody forget the Oxford University while thinking of the educational institutions of the Oxford City? Of course, not! A number of very good academic institutions form the jewel of the city like the Christ Church Cathedral School, New College School, Wheatly Park School and the St Gregory the Great School.
