Gwadar

Gwadar was conquered by several rulers like Lehrasp, Gushtasp, Bahman, Huma and Darab, and even by Alexander the Great. It is recorded that the earliest settlers of this region were the people of the Bronze Age. Gwadar became a part of Pakistan in the year 1958 and was included under the Balochistan Province ever since.

Gwadar is situated on the southwestern coast of Pakistan and lies close to the important Straits of Hormuz. It is an important port city in Pakistan and one of the major areas via which oil trade takes place. In the year 2004 it was declared as a 'Special economic Zone'. It is one of the most prosperous cities in the Balochistan Province.

It was primarily Gwadar's geographical location that made it a favorite ground for settlement and several dynasties stayed in this region. Each of them left a mark on the city's mode of livelihood. Today the Gwadar culture is a conglomeration of many cultures. Omanians ruled Gwadar in Balochistan and owing to this the people of the area adopted many Arab traits a and styles.

In Gwadar people will also meet residents whose forefathers were the African slaves who were trafficked to this part of the world. People of various religious communities have found an ideal home in the Gwadar region. Sunni Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Parsis, Qadiani's and the Zikri sect are to be found here. Even as the years have passed Gwadar's popularity rests on the fact that it is a commercial zone that earns great revenue for the country.

Gwadar district extends for about 600 kms. The coastline is an un-irrigated tract but has a beauty of its own. The most magnificent scenic views are available at Kulanch and Dasht valleys. Primarily the economic, the historical and the geographical reasons account for the growing rate of tourism in Gwadar. More and more tourists are traveling to this part of Balochistan. On one hand the tourists will be able to feel the old world charm and on the other appreciate the rapid growth of industrialization in Gwadar. Today Gwadar is the hub of tourist attractions in Balochistan.
