Sibi was mentioned in manuscripts and documents that narrated the invasion of India by Alexander. Originally the place was under the rule of the Ghaznavids. Nasiruddin Kubacha of the Ghaznavids was the ruler of this region till in the early 15th century it went under the dominion of Shah Beg of Arghun Dynasty. Before passing into the hands of the British, the empire was reigned by the Marris and Bugtis during the 19th century. Sibi was divided into three districts before it was finally integrated into one province in the year 2000.
Historians had to refer to Sibi primarily because the region is situated at the mouth of the Bolan, Mula and Harnai Passes. The rugged Himalayan ranges kept it separated from the rest of Balochistan therefore it was the favorite route of the invaders as it kept the invaders concealed from the enemies. The main mountain ranges here are the Zen, Bambore and Dungan. The climatic features of Sibi are different from the other regions in Balochistan primarily because of is unique geographical positioning. During the warmer months Sibi in Balochistan becomes scorching and the temperatures exceed 50oC. During the other months the weather is very pleasant.
The sub-districts or tehsils of Sibi Province are: Sibi, Harnai, Kutmandi and Sangan. The population of Sibi comprises of both Muslims and Hindus. There are certain tribes who still live in this region and they are Marri, Bugti, Barozai and Khajjak, and Jamote. Balochs and Pathans are the two main races who live here. Some of the Balochian tribes are settled in the Sibi Province include Rind, Jamalis, Golas, Khosas, Umranis and Khiloanis. Pathan tribes who still reside here are Kakars, Pannis Tarins, Sanatia. Spin Tarins, Tor Tarins and many more.
Today Sibi is one of the important tourist attractions in Balochistan not only because of its unique contours but also because of its rich history.
