Faisal Mosque

Pakistan is one of the prominent Islamic countries in the world and Faisal Mosque is one of its main mosques. It is not only a place of worship but it also boasts of a rich history. This place is located in the close vicinity of the mausoleum of General Zia-ul-Haq and this makes the place even easier to track down. This place has a marvelous architecture and is also superbly decorated. The beauty of the structure has gained thousand times more prominence due to the presence of the Maragalla Hills in its background. Faisal Mosque is one of the fascinating Islamabad Tourist Attractions that has always enchanted tourists.

The Faisal Mosque is a work of inspiration of the Saudi Arabian King, Faisal bin Abdul Aziz. The building was completed in 1986. During the construction of the Faisal Mosque, King Faisal was assassinated and the place was named after him as a tribute. Another reason behind this naming owes to the monetary help that the king provided for the construction.

The credit of the design of the Faisal Mosque goes to a Turkish architect called Vedat Dalokay. The excellent design of the mosque intrigues the students of architecture. It is a combination of medieval as well as modern building concepts.

Faisal Mosque has four minarets. If you take a minute look at them you will find a visible influence of Turkish architectural style of the yesteryears. It is one of the biggest mosques in this country. The total capacity of the mosque is 24,000 and it is in the portico. However, the courtyard of this building is even more spacious. It can make room for 40,000 people.

It is one of the major sightseeing places in Islamabad and you cannot miss a visit here. The place where this mosque is situated is called Shaharah-e-Islamabad. It is a picturesque site that is worth capturing in frame and also in words, if you are a poet then the second option will be close to your heart.
