National Museum of Pakistan

National Museum of Pakistan accounts to be one of the most distinct tourist attractions in Karachi. The city of Karachi harbors numerous places of interest and sightseeing options including religious and historical sites, art galleries, parks and museums. National Museum of Pakistan is a popular venue where visitors throng with great interests.

The National Museum of Pakistan in Karachi was founded in Frere Hall Building on April 17, 1950. The main motto of this museum was to gather, study, conserve and display the accounts of the art and cultural heritage of the nation of Pakistan. It was also set up with the view to inculcate a clear perception about the nation’s tradition in the people. After this museum was established, the Government of Pakistan decided to form an Advisory Council in order to suggest some measures to the museum authority by means of which it can ameliorate the existing collections of work and encourage it to bring in more such artistic works.

It was in the year 1970, when the National Museum of Pakistan was relocated to its current site. During that period, there were just four galleries situated within the museum. But at present day, the museum houses 11 galleries. The grand ‘Quran Gallery’ is a notable feature in this museum. This museum holds over 300 transcripts of the Holy Quran. Among these, about 52 uncommon holographs are kept for show in the ‘Quran Gallery’.

Tourists can get to see such antique items in the other galleries which relate to the historical grandeur of the nation. They can get to view sculptural works belonging to the Gandhara Civilization, murals, items from the Indus Civilization, facts about Islamic Art, old coins and holograms featuring records of the political history of Pakistan. The astounding statues of the various cultural groups in the Ethnological Gallery are indeed something to be marveled at.

There are about 58,000 ancient coins preserved in the National Museum of Pakistan. Visitors can also get to see some few hundreds of carvings. There are about 70,000 books and printing materials kept here in display. Those were actually brought from the Archaeology and Museums Department.

The National Museum of Pakistan houses an auditorium which can accommodate about 250 people. On various prominent events, the museum conducts various shows and exhibitions.
