Although the construction of this cathedral began in the year1544 but it sustained partial damage due to earthquake in the 17th century. In 1844 it was completely burnt in fire. Later this church was again rebuilt in its present form.
If you explore the main square you will also find the La Compania which is positioned just on the opposite corner of the Plaza. This church was built by the Jesuits in the year1573 and is known for its mestizo façade and the Chapel of San Ignacio de Loyola.
