Transportation in Cajamarca: Air connections
There is a small airport in Cajamarca called Major General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias Airport. In Spanish it is known as Aeropuerto Mayor General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias and is run by CORPAC S.A., (Corporacion Peruana De Aeropuertos Y Aviacion Comercial S.A.), a government run organization that oversees the management of all Peruvian airports.
This airport operates daily flight services to and from Lima. These flights are mostly propellers rather than jet planes as the runway in this Airport is too short for jet planes. This airport is located at a short distance from the heart of the city and it will take approximately $1.50 to reach the city center from here by a taxi.
Transportation in Cajamarca: Bus connections
Cajamarca has a fast and efficient bus service that connects the city to the coast via Pacasmayo. These buses also ply to other areas in the highlands from Cajamarca, such as Huamachuco and Celendín. However, if you want to visit Celendín from Cajamarca, it is advisable to avoid the bus route as the ride can be very bumpy because the road is in a very poor condition. Also, the journey is too slow to be enjoyable and can be dangerous as well. The road from Chiclayo to Chachapoyas is cemented most of the way and although the distance between the two places is much longer the journey is much quicker and smoother due to excellent road condition.
During the rainy season, the road from the coast to Cajamarca is closed at times due to the inclement weather, which makes it difficult to negotiate the sharp turns and curves. There is also a risk of land slides at this time of the year.
Most bus companies have their offices on Av. Atahualpa. This is located on the way from the centre to Baños del Inca.
