Lying on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the city of Puno is the folklore capital of Peru. There are numerous Tourist Attractions in and around Puno and Lake Titicaca in Puno is one of the most popular of them.
Origin of the Name:
The origin of the name Titicaca is translated as "Rock Puma", and as well as translated as "Crag of Lead". To the Bolivians, Lake Titicaca is known as Lago Huiñaymarca.
- Situated at the northern end of the endorheic Altiplano basin and at an altitude of 3,812 meters above sea level, Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world.
- The water of Lake Titicaca is slightly brackish, with salinity ranging from 5.2 to 5.5 parts per 1,000. The average Surface temperature is 56º F.
- Lake Titicaca's fish life comprises essentially of 2 species of killifish- a small fish, usually striped with black and a catfish.
- The western side of Lake Titicaca lies within the Puno Region of Peru while the eastern side is situated in the Bolivian La Paz Department.
- Lake Titicaca is compiled of 2 sub-basins which are connected by the Strait of Tiquina. Lago Grande, the larger sub-basin, has a mean depth of 135 meters and Lago Huiñaimarca, the smaller sub-basin, has a mean depth of 9 meters.
- 5 major river systems namely Ramis, Coata, Ilave, Huancané, and Suchez feed into Lake Titicaca.

Uros:
Titicaca is notable for a population of people who live on the island of Uros, a group of about 43 artificial islands composed of floating reeds.
Amantaní:
Amantaní is another small island on Lake Titicaca populated by Quechua speakers. About 800 families reside in the 6 villages on the island covering an area of 15 square kilometers. There are 2 mountain peaks, named as Pachatata and Pachamama.
Isla del Sol:
Located on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca with regular boat services to the Bolivian town of Copacabana, Isla del Sol is one of the largest islands of Lake Titicaca.
