House of Aliaga

The history of this monument shows that its construction dates back to the early days of the city so and this explains why it is considered as one of the oldest mansions and the most ancient historic site in Lima.

House of Aliaga in Lima was built on the private temple of the native chief Taulischusco, leading authority of the Rimac Valley during Inca times. It first belonged to the Jeronimo de Aliaga who was given the land by Francisco Pizarro. This house was constructed in 1535 on a pre-Columbian sanctuary. It is one of the important attractions, which remarkably exists from the early days of the city. It has been inhabited permanently by the descendants of the first proprietor.

House of Aliaga in Lima has all the characteristics of the most important mansions of the historical center of Lima of the vice royal time. Seventeen generations of a single family has lived in this house and it has been handed down from one generation to the next thereby making it the oldest single family-owned and occupied home in South America. The house is furnished in colonial style with pieces from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. The house continues to be occupied by descendants of the first proprietor. It also hosts some of the important cultural events in Lima.
