Santo Domingo Church

Santo Domingo Church is one of the main tourist attractions in Lima which is built around mid 1500. It is located a short walk northwest of Plaza de Armas in central Lima. Santo Domingo Church was built in 1540 on land given to the Dominican Friar Vincente Valverde by Francisco Pizarro and is a fascinating sightseeing attraction in Lima. The architectural designs have however faced many refurbishments and the modifications started around the mid 16th Century. All primitive Gothic forms were abandoned, and replaced by the so called Lima Baroque style.

It is home to the remains of Saint Rose of Lima, Saint Martin de Porres, who was the first black saint in America, and San Jaun Masias. There is also a spacious Chapter Room designed in renaissance style, an ancient Crypt where the members of the order were buried, and a valuable library.

The interior of the church features three naves, cedar wood carven stools in the choir, and the Chapels of the Rosario and of Santa Rosa, which store the skulls of the Saint of Lima and of San Martín de Porres. With the architectural splendor and the magnificence of the place, Santo Domingo Church in Lima is a must see feature in Lima and the tourists are suggested to take a trip to this place.
