Tambopata National Reserve is a place which is created in the year 1990. The Tambopata National Reserve is a moist forest area covering an area of 1.09 hectares. At the Tambopata National Reserve n Iquitos you would find varieties of plant life including trees of huge economic importance such as cedar, mahogany, pona and aguaje. The whole area of Tambopata National Reserve is divided into eight areas. These are:

- Subtropical high-humidity

- Subtropical high-humidity foothills cloud forest
- Subtropical rainforest
- Subtropical lower foothills cloud forest
- Semi-flooded subtropical premontane cloud forest

The main rivers that flow through the Tambopata National Reserve are Tambopata, Tavara, Malinowski, la Torre, Guacamayo and Candamo. Though there is no human settlement within the Tambopata National Reserve but around the area you would get excellent accommodation.
There are various projects associated with the Tambopata National Reserve of Iquitos. These are Giant River Water Otter Project, Environmental Education Project etc./
The various threats to Tambopata National Reserve are gold mining, increasing farming, extraction of forest resources such as fruits, fishes and palm frods and illegal logging.
The most famous attraction of the Tambopata National Reserve is the yellow head river otter. Various initiatives have been taken to save this endangered species from extinction. The other species which are worth watching in Tambopata National Reserve are anteater, the giant armadillo, the jaguar, pink river dolphin, black spider monkey and anaconda.
