Cuzco's Regional History Museum is one of the popular Tourist Attractions in Cuzco. The building was previously the home of the writer Inca Garcilazo de la Vega who is famous for his "Comentarios Reales". The writer was born here. Since 1946 this huge mansion has been transformed into Regional History Museum of Cuzco. The museum houses a large collection of colonial art from the Spanish empire in Cuzco. As you enter the museum the décor of the interior gives an aura of the grant colonial architecture and interior decoration. Cuzco's Regional History Museum takes you back to the time of Inca Garcilazo de la Vega and introduce with the works and daily routine of the writer.
Cuzco's Regional History Museum houses an important collection of paintings of Cusco Academy. Some of the most notable works are San Ignacio Obispo, Santa Marta and San Sebastián. You will see some of the excellent wood carvings by Bernardo Bitti and the works of artists such as Pablo Chilli Tupa, Antonio Vilca, Geronimo Gutierrez and Diego Quispe Tito.
The archaeological pieces that are excavated from Cuzco and the Peruvian coast are on display on the ground floor of Cuzco's Regional History Museum. The museum comprises an auditorium and a

Apart from these, the collection of Cuzco's Regional History Museum include valuable historic documents, collection of items from pre-Inca era, pottery from pre-Inca civilization that was developed in Cuzco and in other parts of the country. Colonial and Republic coins are on display at the exhibition room of Contemporary Art section in Cuzco's Regional History Museum. The museum is open for public from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 7pm.
