La Casa Risco

La Casa Risco remains a must visit on your Trujillo Tours. If you are planning to travel to visit the downtown area of Trujillo, make sure you visit this site. The La Casa Risco which has evolved to become one of the major Tourist Attractions in and around Trujillo, is one of the most well known colonial mansions in this part. La Casa Risco in Trujillo stands in its majestic glory, an epitome of colonial elegance and architectural excellence.

La Casa Risco has now been conserved in its full magnificence by local institutions and it now houses the Museum of Archaeology. This elegant colonial house of Trujillo was built in the early 18th century. Trujillo, a city in northwestern Peru, is located on the lower Moche River, near its mouth on the Pacific Ocean. Trujillo holds the prestigious title of being the capital of the La Libertad Region and it is the third-most populous city in Peru after Arequipa and Lima. Due to the city's proximity to important sites where the Moche and Chimu civilizations flourished, Trujillo has become one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Peru.

At La Casa Risco, visit the Museo de Arqueología, Antropología y Historia, the museum which records the development of pre-Hispanic cultures in northern Peru, especially the Moche, Chimú and Inca cultures. The museum also has exhibits on of ceramics and here you can know about more about the land, its ancient civilizations, their history and culture. The museum has a section on the Huaca de la Luna with a large-scale model of the Huaca and artifacts found at the site. The museum remains open from 9.30 am to 2 pm on Mondays, 9.15 am to 1 pm on Tuesdays, 3.30 pm to 7 pm on Saturdays and 9.30 am to 4 pm on Sundays.

La Casa Risco is a magnificent example of the 17th century architectural patterns. Among the other features, iron balconies make for a prominent character of this type of buildings. Apart from the La Casa Risco in Trujillo, the other sites which are worth a visit in this area are the Cathedral with its collection of paintings from the Quito School and the Monastery of El Carmen and Art Museum.
