This sanctuary was re-created by the Maryknoll Sisters in order to enhance awareness of the environment among the mass. This "Cosmic Journey" began after the earthquake in the city of Baguio in July 1990. This sanctuary aimed at promoting the environmental education. The journey is referred to as "A nature walk of play and discovery into the earth's deep interconnectedness."

Fourteen separate stations were formed to signify the eminence and significance of the "Cosmic Journey" and the importance of the ecological balance. The first station reflects the formation of the Universe. The fifth and eight stations depict the origin of the mammals and the primates respectively. The final two stations reflect the Earth's ecclesiastical customs and heritage, and a Bio-shelter respectively.

They can take a stroll around the park marveling at the nature's wonders. If the weather conditions permit, tourists can get to enjoy spectacular views of the Mount Santo Tomas along with the surrounding regions. Tourists are advised to carry packed food and water bottles and are also recommended to put on outdoor shoes for trailing.

The pamphlet regarding the "Cosmic Journey" available in the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary, Baguio indicates that a journey through the ancient caves and over a hanging bridge beckons the people towards an internal journey. A detailed study of the cosmos leads us to make a judicious decision on the ways of utilizing the earth's resources. This needs to be done so that our successors can enjoy dwelling in a beautiful planet.
