By late February until May, these birds return to their breeding grounds in the reverse Northward Migration. These birds use Olango as a major refueling station. At Olango, the birds can refill their reserves by feeding on a rich supply of invertebrates in the mudflats. This refueling of sorts stands the bird in good state on the next lap of their journey which includes a non-stop flight of 3,000 to 15,000 kilometers.
