The terrain of Panglao Island ranges from plain, hilly to mountainous. The Panglao Island is made of Maribojoc limestone. This is the youngest type of limestone units occurring widely in the western portion of the Province of Bohol.

Panglao Island, Philippines is mostly flat and poorly bedded. One of the geological features found in the protected area is the Hinangdanan Cave. It is found in Bingag, Duis. It is characterized by an underground water source. Panglao Island has no rivers and lakes and the water of this cave is its primary source of water.

Estimated about 1,500 to 2,500 mollusks are believed to be found in the waters of Panglao and Balicasag. About 6,000 species of mollusks were identified in a study area of only about 15, 000 hectares. In comparison the Mediterranean Sea has yielded only 2,024 species in a 300 million hectare area.

Owing to the richness of the marine biodiversity, an International Research and Training Workshop were organized in Panglao in 2004. It consisted of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Total Foundation for Biodiversity and the Sea and the ASEAN Regional Center for Biodiversity Conservation.

The teeming aquatic resources provide food and livelihood for the locals. SA-ANG is a famous food of the region. It is a seashell and the creature inside is a delicious treat. It can be bought at the stores which lined the road going to Duljo

Another major attraction is the caves located at Barangay Bingag, Dauis, and Panglao Island. Dauis is one of the towns of Panglao Island and the other one is Panglao and Dauis is just 5 minutes from the Tagbilaran City. The Hinagdanan Cave is an underground cave with a lagoon inside. There are 2 holes on the ceiling of the cave. They allow sunlight inside the dark cave. The steps are slippery so a crude railing made of rope guides visitors inside the cave.

Alona Kew is one of the many beaches in Panglao Island. It is the most popular one in the island. One can always find a variety of resorts and accommodation in the area. They range from budget to luxurious ones
