Geography: The Pyramids of Giza are situated in the Valley of Giza, a part of the greater Cairo in Egypt. The latitudinal locations of the pyramids are 29°58'44.68?N, 31°08'02.58?E. it is located in the Giza Plateau, in the periphery of Cairo. The Pyramids consist of the Pyramid of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. The ravages of time have only allowed the Pyramid of Khafre to retain its original limestone casing.

History: The Pyramids are an epitome of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The first in the line of the great Pyramids is the Step Pyramid of Saqqara built to contain the body of the King Djoser who died around 2649 BCE. The Pyramid of the king Khufu was built between the years 2589 – 2566 B.C. His son, Khafre oversaw the construction of the second largest pyramid, the Khafre Pyramid, during his reign. This pyramid was built during the years 2558 and 2532 B.C. the third pyramid was built by Menkaure who ruled from 2490 – 2472 B.C. The Sphinx is another important structure built in the complex of the pyramids. With the head of a lion and the body of a Pharaoh, it is believed to be the Guardian Spirit of the entire pyramid complex.

Economy: The economic activity of the Giza mainly revolves around agriculture and tourism. With the tourists flocking in to have a look at the only remaining ancient Seven Wonders of the World, the city has a flourishing hotel industry.
The local people mainly earn their living by involving themselves in tourism related activities in the high seasons.

Administration and Government: Giza is the capital city of the Al Jizah Governorate.
