History: Quito was founded on the ruins of the Inca city in the year 1534. The Spanish arrived in the city in the year 1533. The year 1541 is important as Quito was named a city in that year. After Gran Columbia was dissolved and Republic of Ecuador came into existence, Quito became the capital of the new country in the year 1830.

Economy: The most important economic activity of the city is tourism and related services. Other than that the indigenous handicrafts industry also earns a considerable amount of money for the tribal people of the region.
Administration and Government: The administration is divided amidst the Old City and the New City. The North Quito and the South Quito are also two other divisions of the city. Most of the public administration buildings are found in the old city. The city is governed by the Mayor, Paco Moncayo. Quito is divided into 19 urban electoral parishes for the purpose of better administration.
Society and Cultural Life: You will be very warmly greeted if you know even a little Spanish, as it is the most accepted language over the whole of South America.
But if you don’t know it, don’t worry, you will still be made to feel good by the locals. Some attention needs to given to your wardrobe, because Quito has a very conservative bent of mind. You will see the suggestion of this in the way the people dress.
Transport System:
Travel to Quito – You can travel to Quito by air to the Aeropuerto International Mariscal Sucre, which is served by flights from Amsterdam, Madrid, Houston, Atlanta, New York and Miami. You can also travel to Quito by bus to the Terminal Terrestre de Cumandá in the Old Town.
Travel in Quito – Take a ride in the El Trole, which is the trolley and the Ecovia, the public buses, both of which provide excellent service to the tourists. Other than this, you always have the choice to be a little luxuriant and invest in private cars or taxis to get around the city. Another option is to avail of the services of the metro buses to travel in Quito.
Educational Institutions: There are many educational institutions in the city including the primary, secondary schools and higher secondary schools. The University of San Francisco, in Quito is one of the best institutions providing courses in management studies.
