The Rugby World Cup 1995 was the third in the series of Rugby World Cup. What was unique of this event was that this was the only World Cup event which was hosted by a single country , South Africa.
The winner’s trophy , the William Webb Ellis Cup was awarded to the host country. The cup was presented to the South African captain Francois Pienaar by Nelson Mandela. The final took place in Johannesburg on 24 June 1995. Though lot of controversy was attached with the win as most of the runner ups New Zealand team fell ill due to food poisoning just a day before the final.
In the Rugby World Cup 1995 16 nations took part out of which eight teams who reached the quarter finals of the Rugby World Cup 1991 got automatic entry. Other positions were filled the teams who qualified regionally.
The mega sports event ,Rugby World Cup 1995 started on May 25, this match was played between South Africa and Australia and the hosts won 27-18 at Newlands in Cape Town. The event continued for around one month.
In this event the games were hosted in 10 stadiums which were under the ownership of domestic rugby unions. These venues got a touch of renovation before the Rugby world Cup 1995.

South Africa toppled Western Samoa in the quarter finals, and then won over France in the semi-finals to get the final berth
The All Blacks won over Scotland in the quarter-finals, defeated England in the semi-finals. In this game Jonah Lomu amazingly scored four tries.
The finals were held at Golden Lions' Ellis Park in Johannesburg and Ed Morrison of England was the referee in the match.
