Excursions in Tobolsk

You should go for the Excursions in Tobolsk as part of your Tobolsk Tours. You can start off your Excursions in Tobolsk with visiting the Tobolsk Kremlin.

The standing stone ‘kremlin’ is a detailed city-fortress with white walls and towers with an assemblage of churches and palatial buildings. It was built on a high river bank at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. It was recognized as a national historical and architectural treasure in 1870. The principal monuments of the kremlin are the Cathedral of St. Sophia (1683–1686), a merchant courtyard (1703–1705), an episcopal palace (1773–1775) which is now the museum of local lore and the Swedish Chamber with six baroque halls (1713–1716).

The Tobolsk stone Kremlin was built at the beginning of the 18th century and before the construction of the stone structure, several of its wooden precedents had been constructed on the Troytsk cape. The first wooden Kremlin was built in 1594. When the first Siberian archbishop Cyprian arrived in Tobolsk in 1621, an archbishop house was built at the site of the wooden Kremlin with the Church of St.-Sophia next to it. A new log-built nine-tower Kremlin was built in 1644. Later, a new thirteen-domed Sophian Cathedral was built near the archbishop’s house.

Excursions in Tobolsk will also take you to the churches. The Cathedral is the oldest stone building in Siberia. The Sophiysko-Uspensky Cathedral was built in the times of the Metropolitan Paul I, who was responsible for building of churches and monasteries and also was a father confessor of the Tsarina Sophia. You can also visit the other churches like The Cathedral Campanile, The Pokrovsky Cathedral, The Church of the Archangel Michael, The Church of Peter and Paul, The Church of the Erecting of a Cross and The Roman-Catholic (Polish) Church.

You can also visit the Znamenski monastery in Abalak for Excursions in Tobolsk. Apart from this, visit the study of Nikolai Romanov II, the Zavalnoe Cemetery and the house in the Downtown where the royal family was held. It is situated in the Downtown. Nikolai’s cabinet was reconstructed according to the old photos in one of its rooms. Today, it is a museum. You can also plan a trip to the neighborhood area of the city which boasts of several ancient kurgans and pagan shrines.
