The Glinka Museum of Musical Culture, Moscow has a wide collection of large and varied musical instruments from all over the world as well as the original scores. One can also find manuscripts and classical music memorabilia at the Museum. The Glinka Museum of Musical Culture, Moscow grew from a small number of rare musical instruments and also original sheet music which were given to the Moscow Conservatoire at the end of the 19th century. The State Central Museum of Musical Culture was founded by the Soviet government in 1943 which was based on the collection of the Conservatoire. In 1945, at the celebration of 150th anniversary of Mukhail Glinka's birth, who was the great 19th century Russian composes, the museum was named as the Glinka Museum of Musical Culture, Moscow.
Presently, the Glinka Museum of Musical Culture, Moscow has a collection of over 2,500 pieces and includes beautifully crafted instruments from all around Russia as well as the world. All these items are displayed in suitable color-coded rooms. The green rooms have the dragon embossed Buriyat horns as well as Shamen's skin drums from the Yakutia, while the Moldovian and the nicely inlaid Caucasian stringed instruments are present in the yellow room. The blue hall has the eastern collection or the Oriental instruments, and these include Chinese drums as well as a horse headed Korean morinkhuur.
