Standing on the Borovitsky Hills in the southern precincts of the Kremlin complex, Great Kremlin Palace, Moscow is an important tourist attraction. The palace on the site of the Grand Princes which was founded in the 14th century, is a striking yellow and white structure and is a glorious specimen of the Russo Byzantine facade. Emperor Nicholas I constructed the palace in the year 1837 and gave the present form to the palace. Great Kremlin Palace, Moscow is the creation of the architect who also designed and created Kremlin Armory and the Church of Christ the Savior.
Great Kremlin Palace, Moscow has been the residence of the Tsar in Moscow. Previously a Baroque Palace existed on the site which was demolished to construct the palace. The palace measures about 125 meters in length, 47 meters in height and spans over an area of 25,000 sq meters. However the complex of the palace comprises the former Terem Palace and nine churches belonging to 14th, 16th and 17th century, the Holy Vestibule and more than 700 spacious rooms. The structure of the palace is in the shape of a rectangle and encloses a courtyard. The building comprises two stories and the upper floor features two sets of windows.
The western part of Great Kremlin Palace, Moscow was the residence of the emperors’ family and has five majestic reception rooms (namely Georgievsky, Vladimirsky, Aleksandrovsky, Andreyevsky and Ekaterinsky) as well as a magnificent staircase. The grand Georgiovsky hall extends over 1250 meters of floor space area well as it is 7.5 meters in height. The hall has zinc columns, crystal chandeliers, parquet floors reflecting the light of the chandeliers Besides there are innumerable marble plaques which the names of the different units in engraved in gold who brought laurels to the country. You will see the names of the famous Russian warriors in the hall. At present the hall is used for different state receptions, ceremonies and functions.
Vladimirsky Hall at Great Kremlin Palace, Moscow is used for signing of different international treatises. The Aleksandrovsky Hall and the Andreyevsky hall were used for carrying on the proceedings of the meetings and the conferences of the erstwhile Soviet Union. At the ground floor you will find the private apartments of the royal family.
